![]() Thanks - really appreciate your post - however, this solution is not working for me. UPDATE: - See solution that worked for me at end of this post. He could also play the video when not connected to the internet.īottom line: Does anyone know of a way to use the public password protected links generated by File Station to allow users to download videos to a known folder on an iPhone? Any help would be greatly appreciated. However, if he were able to actually download the avi file to a known folder, then he could play it with VLC player, nPlayer, or some other versatile player. If the file is a type that normally doesn't play on an iPhone (e.g., an avi), then it won't play. In the iPhone case, I suspect that the entire file is first downloaded to a hidden buffer area on the phone and then starts playing (don't know what player is being used since it's not labeled). That's fine except where is the file? If he closes that window and is subsequently off of the internet, he can't play the video. A little "progress circle" indicates the file is downloading. In this case, in Step 3, rather than seeing a pop-up window allowing him to save the file, he sees a blank video play window (with the usual navigation buttons at the bottom), but the screen is blank. He enters the password, sees the file and then taps on the Download button. However, suppose in Step 2, he opens the email on his iPhone. Then he can play the file later, anytime he wants, without the need to be connected to the internet. A pop-up window allows him to browse to a folder on his PC and save the file there. He clicks on the Download button below the file name. My friend opens the email on his PC, clicks on the link, enters the password when asked, and then sees the file name.I use File Station to create a public link (password protected) to the file. When he accesses them from an iPhone there is a problem - but first let me explain how things go when he accesses them from a Windows PC - in that case, it works just how we would like it to work: I share video files that are on my Synology NAS with a friend.
